Leaving a Legacy to Explore
(Joseph Cowen Lifelong Learning Centre)

You can support the work of Explore by leaving a gift in your will. This will help ensure that our work continues into the future.

We already use one legacy to support our annual Legacy Lecture and receiving further legacies in the future would help safeguard our work.

It is of course entirely up to you whether you do so. Gifts can be either for general purposes, which allows the Board of Trustees to spend the money in line with the organisation’s needs and priorities at the time, or they can be for a specific area of our work specified by you. It’s up to you.

Gifts to Joseph Cowen Lifelong Learning Centre are exempt from UK inheritance tax, as JCLLC is a charity. This will reduce any potential tax liability on your estate.

You can add a legacy to an existing will by using a document called a codicil (example text below) or you could wait until you next review your will. We advise taking advice from a solicitor or professional will-writer to ensure your wishes are properly reflected and that all legal requirements are met. The witnesses to your will need to be independent people who are not members of JCLLC.

If you wish to refer to JCLLC in your will please refer to “Joseph Cowen Lifelong Learning Centre CIO, registered charity no. 1174080” and not to Explore, which is not our formal legal name.
