Volunteering

JCLLC has policies to promote good practice in the organisation including an
Equality and Diversity

Programme Team
A team of member volunteers plans the Explore programmes under the guidance of tutor trustees Anthea Lang and Malcolm Grady. The team is divided into the following subject areas :
Art & Design : Helen Watson & Justin Pearce
Culture & Society : Kath Smith, Joan Oliver & Lesley Pringle,
Narratives : Rita Prabhu
Perspectives : Pamela Denham
Philosophy : Trish Hutson
The programme team are hoping to share some of the work of sourcing speakers, coordinating dates for sessions and liaising with new contacts. Potential volunteers are able to shadow the team and an individual subject area before stepping up to become a main programmer.
The Welcoming Committee (Meet & Greet)
Explore runs 'taster' events as well public lectures, so an important role is ensuring members, new joiners and other visitors receive a warm welcome and a point in the right direction. This can range from helping to welcome all new audiences to a public event, to looking after a bookings list/register of our members' for a session.

Tech Support - Onsite and Remote Sessions
This is a major part of our new day-to-day activities, and an area we often need more volunteers for! The skills we need are not high-level IT - full training can be given and we have 'process & troubleshooting' notes for reference if you get stuck.
For regular Face-to-Face sessions we mainly need people to set-up the laptop, plug this into that, help the tutor open their presentation files and maybe give some cables a wiggle or troubleshoot if something goes awry. We try to have two volunteers at each session, one to set up and another to meet the tutor or put the register out, and we have notes (for example 'Setting Up at Brunswick' notes) to help.
For remote sessions we need people to host the Zoom session, admit attendees and click to run polls for attendee details. This is done from home but using our organisations Zoom details.
We also need people to set up our Blended sessions too, where Face-to-Face sessions are also accessible on Zoom at the same time. This requires another volunteer to set up the laptop and then join/start the Zoom session from the venue.
Please contact the office
or ask a volunteer after a session if you'd be willing to help.

JCLLC administration
The board of JCLLC CIO is comprised of volunteer members and tutors, assisted by a company secretary and minute taker.
