After a few years without, we are happy to have revived our extra member led Season 4 Summer Programme which runs from AFTER our full programme finishes at the start of July until we return in late September / early October. (Find our regular programme information HERE.)

The Season 4 programme is led by members and coordinated by Friends of Explore, and usually contains a varied selection of visits, walks and discussions to suit all tastes.  (Please note, some sessions require small extra payments from members, for example venue/exhibition entrance fees.)

For reference you can still find details of our previous Season Four programmes further down the page.

Geology Walk

A busy day visiting three sites of Permian magnesian limestone around Sunderland and Seaham. Student-led, we had to open our eyes and figure the rocks out for ourselves.  A lot of sharing of knowledge, ideas and questions.  A great little band of happy learners; would certainly do it again.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park Visit

'I'd just like to say that it was a perfect day out enhanced by talking to Explore members in an informal way about the Hepworth, Moore and Caro exhibits. A lovely way of finding out what appeals to different people and why and also figuring out what the artists were inspired by and what they wanted to communicate through their work.'

Nenthead Mine Visit

Exploring the lead-mining heritage of the North Pennines - history, geology, archaeology.  A small group of intrepid Explorers visited 'parts the normal visitors don't reach', having a once in a lifetime experience provided by the wonderful volunteers of the Nenthead Mines Conservation Trust.
